look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!

Some new sketches from my new sketchbook…

For my post about selling small press comics I threw in a little illustration of comic shop retailer. I drew this on a small square of stretched canvas for a bit of fun to see how inking on a different surface would change the way I worked. I used all sorts of things: ink and dip pens, brush pens, snowmen markers, and whiteout for smudges (there were a lot). By and large I think it was a moderate success, and certainly fun to do so I might try and do some more at some point.

Very Raymond Pettibon! Without the baseball players…

    I likes it!

I recognised Gordon’s straight away! Like the diary style and all that, especially if I get a walk on part. I would be cautious of drawing stand ups though, tom – it’ll end in tears man… Worse, in tears, on stage in front of people, probably having just wet yourself at the same time. At least it would if it happened to me. But then you could do a diary entry about that after the event and it would make a funny comic :)

ah thanks emma – that’s high praise indeed! can i get my own sonic youth album cover now please? :)

and good advice steve, I think I may just avoid drawing stand-ups. It’s asking for trouble really isn’t it?
